Ugonna Umunnakwe (BBSRC Magnify Placement Student 2024)

Ugo recently completed his BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology at the University of Nottingham. During his undergraduate degree, his final year thesis explored the chemotherapeutic potential of Graviola fruit extract on the human breast carcinoma cell line MCF-7, under the supervision of Dr. Uche Osadolor. He also worked in the Wheatley Survivin Lab at Nottingham, where his research focused on the role of the Survivin protein in DNA damage and repair.

In his project as part of the Al-Ahmady Lab, Ugo applied RNA interference technology to understand the role of 1q amplification in multiple myeloma pathogenesis.

During his time at the University of Nottingham, Ugo was elected chief secretary of the Pharmacology Society. In his spare time, he enjoys music and looks forward to his time in the lab.
