Ethan Harrison (MSc Cancer Biology Student, 2026) 

Ethan is an MSc student in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics at the University of Sheffield, having previously completed an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield. Their academic interests include cancer biology, the tumour microenvironment, and the mechanisms underlying therapeutic resistance.

As part of their MSc research, Ethan worked within the Al-Ahmady lab under the supervision of Dr Zahraa Al-Ahmady, investigating how senescent fibroblasts within the tumour microenvironment can influence the response of multiple myeloma cells to treatment. The project involved cell culture, flow cytometry, viability, metabolic and cell-death assays, ELISA, and protein analysis to investigate potential mechanisms of therapeutic resistance.

Through this research, Ethan developed experience in experimental design, quantitative data analysis, and scientific communication, alongside practical skills in cellular senescence models and cancer drug-response studies. They are particularly interested in understanding the biological mechanisms that influence cancer treatment response and how these insights may contribute to the development of more effective therapies.
