Briana Rose Mellors (MRes Researcher)

I am currently a MRes Cancer Biology student working at the Al-Ahmady Laboratory at Nottingham Trent University. Our research project’s primary focus consists of developing a representative multiple myeloma ex vivo model to be used for personalised medicine applications.

Prior to joining the Al-Ahmady lab, I obtained a first-class honours degree in Biology, at the University of Derby, where I developed a significant interest in researching haematological malignancies. My undergraduate thesis centred around conducting meta-analytical research to compare standardised and novel treatment interventions for acute myeloid leukaemia.

Following my undergraduate degree, I worked as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the NHS for 2 years in the Pathology cancer division. Exposure to clinical laboratory settings and diagnostic testing further reinforced my desire to pursue oncological-based research.

Working with the Al-Ahmady research team has strengthened my scientific understanding, improved my confidence and has expanded my technical repertoire for a diverse array of laboratory practices. This has included working with primary cells, cell culture, magnetic bead separation, cell viability staining and flow cytometry.
